The first edition of the Feminist Film Festival will take place in Bucharest, Romania, from the 1st to the 5th of September 2021. The festival looks to explore issues related to women’s rights, accessibility, gender equality, gender-based violence, migration, motherhood, wokplace gender-based discrimination, age discrimination, LGBTQ+ rights, politics, identity, and all the ways they intersect.
We aim to explore the ways in which both men and women navigate life in patriarchal society. We are looking for works that challenge the way we think and question established ideas. The main aim of the festival is to provoke reflection, raise awareness and combat gender stereotypes and gender-based violence.
We invite all filmmakers, documentarists, visual artists and film students to submit films from the fields of fiction, documentary or visual arts. We especially encourage films created by women.
We are looking for both long and short films created in the last ten years. The films must have English subtitles. To submit your film, please connect to FilmFreeway.
Submission deadline is the 10th of June 2021.
The selection jury is made up of human rights activists and the selected films will be announced by July 10th. A number of the selected filmmakers will be invited to participate in the festival, travel and accommodation costs covered by the organisers. The festival will also have two awards with cash prizes, Best Film Award and Audience Award.
The pandemic situation and new country restrictions might affect the organisation of the festival. All filmmakers will be kept updated as new information is released by state authorities.
