The aim of this project is to enable partner organizations to bring the rights of LGBTQ + minorities to the public agenda and to work for changes or policies in this area.

The objectives of the project are:

  • Creating a space to share good practices and experiences between youth organizations on two continents, in the field of LGBTQ + rights activism;
  • Increasing the level of innovation and creativity in the field of LGBTQ + youth workers;
  • Increasing the level of knowledge of young people and youth workers on topics such as: Human Rights (values, principles, case studies), History of Rights and Movement of the LGBTQ + community, social exclusion, intercultural dialogue, tolerance;
  • Developing the initiative of youth workers;
  • Empowering LGBTQ + activists to continue their work in a way that has a greater impact;
  • Developing the skills of youth workers in terms of non-formal education methods such as the Living Library and the Legislative Theater;
  • Motivating youth organizations to work for LGBTQ + rights and to influence policies both in their communities and globally.

Activities:

  • Project planning meeting with all partners involved in the project, in South Africa;
  • Local research and selection of multipliers / multipliers;
  • Training course for all project partners in human rights, LGBTQ + and the Living Library to promote diversity and respect for human rights in Uganda;
  • Local Living Library events reaching at least 200 people in each country (at least 10 live books will belong to LGBTQ + groups and other live books will be from other vulnerable groups, prone to discrimination);
  • Training course for all project partners in advanced skills for education regarding LGBTQ + rights, focusing on the method of Legislative Theater, in Romania;
  • Local advocacy events for LGBTQ + rights – Legislative Theater performances for at least 200 people (members of the LGBTQ + community, policy makers and other relevant public policy actors);
  • Final evaluation and strategic planning for the future with all partners in Serbia.
  • Local dissemination and follow-up activities.

The project has a duration of 24 months and we expect it to have the following concrete results:

  • A team of 30 trainers and activists for LGBTQ + rights (from South Africa, Botswana, North Macedonia, Nigeria, Romania, Serbia and Uganda);
  • At least 2940 direct beneficiaries following the implementation of local activities;
  • 7 advocacy campaigns to change policies on the rights of LGBTQ + minorities in 7 countries;
  • A collection of Living Books from the Living Libraries of the project in written and audio format;
  • A film about the project experience, translated into all the languages ​​of the countries involved.

This project was initiated by A.R.T. Merger with BalkanIDEA Novi Sad, the coordinating organization. The other partner organizations are:
